BioChemistry before Chemistry?

I have never taken a chemistry course and am going to take Biochemistry (intro) this coming semester.

Am I screwed?

I’m surprised that chemistry isn’t a pre-requisite for Biochemistry. It is possible that the college has created an introduction to biochemistry course that provides the basic chemistry knowledge that you will need.

I would strongly suggest that you talk with the professor of the class. S/he will be able to let you know if a good chemistry background is required to be successful in the class. There’s no sense in taking a class that you aren’t ready for. There shouldn’t be any problem with dropping this class and taking another as long as you do it by the first day or so of class—preferably before the class starts.

You could also talk with your academic advisor who should be able to help you with this.

What are the prerequisites if any? I have never heard of a biochemistry course that didnt have a prerequisite. If you have never taken a Chemistry course, I think you should drop this. You may be way in over your head. I know all too well about taking classes I wasnt prepared for.

Consult an advisor or your college catalog. Double check for sure!

most definitely! Did you talk to a counselor about that? I know that at my previous college, you cannot move to lower classes after doing others. In your case for example, after taking biochem, you cannot go back and take chem. Try looking into it a little more. Chem is a difficult subject for me, not to mention biochem.
