becoming a doctor…maybe?

If i want to become a doctor… can i just go to any college that offers pre-med program (with the exception that i need to actaully “get in” to it) also, can someone tell me was a residency is and that t word that i cant remember at the moment. It would also help if someone could make like an outline of the steps to become a doctor who specializes. Pulmonologist sounds interesting to me.

You can major in just about anything in college, as long as you take the required courses for med school admission. In fact you would be better off with a back up major other than pre med- many try but not all are admitted.

Secondly learn to spell medical terms.

Your residency is your ‘on the job training’ after you have finished med school. During med school you do rotations to expose you to all specializations and then you choose your specialty. A residency is anywhere from 3-6 years. You will invest 11-14 years in your education before you can practice.

Answerer #1 mentioned internships which do not exist anymore.

there is an internship and a residency a internship is when you just came out of med school and you are taken under a doctors wing than after you decide what to specialize in during your internship time you take up a residency where you are free to work your practice and than after a period of time you are tested on it
