B.A in French?

I like French and have always done really well in the language at school. If I major in French, what career opportunities are out there for me? Will it be better to do a double major (get a degree in French and something else)? What other major would be good to pair with a French major?…in order to improve my chances of getting a job when I graduate? Or if I choose to just major in French and want to further my studies after that degree into something else, what would be a good choice to get into –Law, Social Work, or what else? I also like to write, but I don’t think doing a double major in French and English would land me something tangible afer I graduate. Is there anyone who majored in French in uni/college, or who did double major with French and got a good job afterwards?

P.S: I’m in Canada, and French is the second language here…if that changes anything.

Majoring in French is usually a degree that prepares you to teach French (though you may need a teaching credential as well). Otherwise it does not really prepare you for any specific field….you would have a liberal arts degree..and this is better preparation than someone with no college.

As for what goes with that major. Business is the first that comes to mind. Having a second language is very useful in a business context.

Education is the next…then you can teach.

In CAN certainly any other major will link and will open more doors to working in Quebec.

You don’t say what you are really interested in…and this is important if you are going to look at social work or a related field.

The state department always needs poly-lingual individuals for work overseas. Couple fluency with a real degree-skill and you will be able to work in many places overseas.
