Are half-asians considered to be a minority to colleges?

For example when you mark an ethniticity for tests or college applications they never have half asian. Do you put white or asain? Does being a hapa increase your chances of getting into acollege because you are a minority?

Yes, you can put down Asian.

Whether it helps you get into college depends on where you apply. I know in CA, there are too many asians in college so it’s actually a negative (not that being white helps you any either).

In Mississippi, you’re definitely a minority and it would help.

Well you have Asian blood, so you can call yourself Asian. Many Native Americans do that even if they are not half native. If it ever comes up, just explain your situation. I’m sure they wouldn’t want to discriminate just because you are half. Unless it explicitly says to be full blooded, I wouldn’t see a problem.

Even if you get a better chance of entrance because of being a minority, don’t count on it. Affirmative action is sort of looked down upon after some controversies.

I would just put down that you are Asian, that will give you minority status. The fact that you are half Asian gives you that right. I mean you are half Asian so use it to any advantage you can when trying to get into college. 🙂
