A good college is at least twice as difficult as a college prep high school. I see no reason that you should take a heavier than regular (15 units) load before you have had experience with college classes. You can take 18 units after you have earned all A grades in 15 units. The first three classes listed probably have heavy reading lists and term paper requirements. Two math related classes are too many for anyone but a math major. Unless you have passed out of science and English composition with AP scores, you need to start satisfying any requirements you may have in those areas as soon as possible.

18 credit hours is a bit much for a first year student. Thats basically taking 6 classes in one semester. Reckon I do not know what courses you are taking (that does make a huge difference) but most people usually take 15 credit hours a semester.

Certainly the first semester. Even if you were an excellent student in high school, it is hard to know how well you will be able to handle the workload in college. In addition, you want time to be able to get to know people and discover the opportunities that might be available at your university outside the classroom (the classes should be only one significant part of your education). I would take 15 units the first semester and, if you find you have too much time on your hands, increase that the second semester.

Depends what you’re majoring in and how hard the classes are. Music and art majors take less hours than other majors because a lot of outside class time is spent.
I have a double major and a minor and I take on average 16 hours a semester. 18 hours might be a bit overbearing your first semester, but also take into consideration you’re probably taking into classes.

It would depend on the difficulty of the classes in question and how much time you want to spend studying. Usually 15 hours should be sufficient your first year.

Maybe. Stay aware of the mid-semester “withdrawal” dates if you feel like it’s getting to be too much. Good luck!
