Applying to colleges?
1. How are the essays supposed to be written? Do I type it or hand-write it? If I type, do I have to do it on the application paper? Also, does it matter if I send one essay to several colleges? Do they look at that?
2. I am planning on applying to about 13 or 14 colleges. Is that too many?
3. Which way do you prefer to apply? By mail or by online?

Most universities have unique questions. Even if a question looks the same, you need to describe why that particular university’s program appeals to you. Therefore, absolutely, 100% do not send the same essay to multiple colleges. Take the time to write one for each college, unique and tailored to that college.
2. The essays alone will overwhelm you. It makes no sense to spend all the money on that number without taking the time to personalize each application to each particular college. Doing generic applications is a sure-fire way to get denied. I suggest 2 definites, two maybe/probably, and 2 reach/dream schools.
3. Online is by far the best way.
1.) Anyway, essays should always be typed because it’s neater and faster for the admissions officer to read. You don’t want the admissions officer to struggle reading your essay, and ultimately get rejected. When you type your application, and print the essay out, just attach it on the application or put the essay on the application and photocopy it. You can send the same essay to different colleges because colleges don’t get in touch with each other whatsoever. (Besides, if you’re going to use the Common Application, then you definitely can send in the same essay.) In your essay, you should be very open, and try to relate to the audience. I find that if you relate to the audience, the reader will definitely love your essay and will admit you.
2.) Applying to 13 to 14 colleges isn’t too many because you never know where you’re going to be accepted by. To increase your chance of admissions (and happiness), apply to about 3-4 safety schools, 4-5 probable schools, and 4-5 reach schools. That way you won’t be too worried about where you get accepted.
3.) Well, colleges treat all application the same, so it doesn’t matter by which you apply to, whether it’s by mail or by online. But I think submitting your application by mail is much more secure than by using the internet, but it doesn’t matter. Hope this helps!
2) 13-14 seems like a lot of schools, but if you can afford to pay for all of the application fees, then go for it.
3) Online is a lot easier. It’s easier for you and it’s easier for the admissions office. I appled online to all of the colleges I applied to and I got my first answer within a few weeks simply because its easier to sort information for them when it is computerized.
