Advice for the Common Application?

Yes, yes, I know that I’m getting a big head start and that some universities don’t even have their supplements available yet. BUT… I have a few questions regarding the common application:

1. My mom has full physical and legal custody of me and my father is not involved in my life. Should I put down “Father” and put my step-dad’s name and information on there? That is with whom I currently reside… and my mom, of course.

2. How do the teacher/counselor recommendation forms work? Does the school keep the master copies and then send copies to colleges? I’m just slightly confused on the whole concept… OR do I have to have different recommendations for every school? I think that kind of defeats the purpose of the “Common” Application.

Any and all information appreciated!

I’m starting on my common apps this month!

1) I wouldn’t worry about that too much. Just put father and your stepdad’s name, he is your pretty much your father afterall.

2) To make sure, ask the teachers who are going to be writing your recommendation letters. They should know everything about it. I think, you ask them to write it, they show it to you, you make changes, they modify it, and then they give it to you so you can mail them to the university.

good luck!
