Why did the band call itself “The Beatles” instead of “The Beetles”?
What does The Beatles mean anyway?

Because they want to be part of the Beat movement:
that is the Mersey Beat.
They named thereselves Beatles in honor of the “Crickets”: that was Buddy Holly band, so they only changed an ‘e’ for an ‘a’.

They looked like beetles with those haircuts but they had beat. Their sound was dubbed ” The Mercy Beat.” By the way they were 1st with that hair style but it goes on on it’s own. Well technically Moe Howard had it first. What do you think if they would have copied Curly or Larry’s hair style?

It’s a mixture between the words ‘beat’ (as in the sound of a drum, or rhythm) and ‘beetles’.

because they wanted to emphasize ‘the beat’ in the music. like, “that music’s got a good beat”…
it was paul’s idea.
