When something is new it is knowm as novel.

Anytime something is used, formed or put together with something else in a different way than it is normally done it can be called novel, or a novelty.

The first time a vendor at a state fair grabbed a waffle cake, formed it into a funnel & served ice cream in it, he created a novelty now known as an ice cream cone.

I don’t know about you, but I consider myself a novel cook & baker because I’m always combining new things.

Because the popsicles (usually frozen juice of one sort or another) and what you may mistake for ice cream (it’s usually frozen yogurt, or ice cream dipped in juice and then frozen) are not just plain old ice cream!

So they’re called “novelties.”

i agree with cary cyd that at one time they were new, and the ‘novelty’ tag was just too catchy to unload. so they kept it.

my question is, what is a ‘quiescently frozen’ treat?

Frosty
Because they are not in a standard shape or they are not really ice cream, i.e., sherbet.
