Hi Rocky,

Groucho Marx popularized this old joke in his 1950s TV show, ‘You Bet Your Life.’ It was asked as consolation question to those contestants who won no money during the regular series of quiz questions. Other consolation questions asked included, “When did the War of 1812 start?” “How long do you cook a three-minute egg?” and “What color is an orange? In actuality, no one is buried in Grant’s tomb but the remains of Grant and his wife are contained therein. However, the correct answer on Groucho’s show was, of course, Grant.

You’re kidding. The answer is “no one” since a tomb is above ground. This was an old joke when I was in grade school 50 years ago This is just an oh so obvious juvenile troll… But, I’ll take 2 points for it anyway! It’s about as funny as the reporter who asked, “Aside from that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?”

I always learned the joke went “Who is buried in Grant’s tomb, true of false?” The answer being false because Grant is buried in his tomb, not someone named “Who”.

You know they used to ask this question(I don’t know if they still do) in College history courses and most people didn’t supply the right answer, so they failed. U.S. Grant and his wife are buried there, if you only answered the obvious you would only receive 50% which is a failing grade.

justme….how did you get that Patrick Henry is in Grant’s tomb.

He was the one that said “Give me Liberty, or Give me Death”

I agree that No one is buried in Grant’s tomb as tombs are above ground and therefore no one is actually buried in it!

This is a trick question because tombs are above ground, so no one is “buried” there.
