when it first started all the alphabets were first discovered, the sound of A was the most in any speech, A is the base of most of the sounds that come out initially, Thats probably why A was first thought of cause even the sound one makes while thinking comes from A , after that all the alphabets were just put randomly as per suggestions coming from the people, there is no particular significance as to why the they were ABCDEFGH and not AGNDHYODM , its just a protocol which was then created and everybody followed.

Alphabet comes from the first two letters in the Greek alphabet – alpha and beta.
As a matter of interest, the Arabic A is alif and the Hebrew is aleph. Sanskrit begins with A too. Seems about the only thing we can all agree on!
