What is the difference between…?
2: A crocodile and an alligator
3: mary-kate and ashley olsen???
It freaks me out that I´m not able to see the differences when I see them on TV.
What signs can I use to find the differences? for example I know that leopards just live in africa and jaguars in South America but how can I differ them just by their appearance (same with the reptiles and those clone-twins)?
Favorite Answer

2. Crocodile and Alligator:
A crocodile has a very long, narrow, V-shaped snout.
The alligator’s snout is wider and U-shaped.
The crocodile’s upper and lower jaws are nearly the same width, so the teeth are exposed all along the jaw line in an interlocking pattern, even when the mouth is closed. They also have an enormous 4th tooth on the lower jaw that is accommodated by depressions in the upper jaw just behind the nostrils. An alligator, on the other hand, has a wider upper jaw, so when its mouth is closed the teeth in the lower jaw fit into sockets of the upper jaw, hidden from view. Only the teeth of the upper jaw are exposed along the lower jaw line.
Crocodiles have a lighter olive brown coloration, while alligators appear blackish.
The average alligator grows to about 14 feet (4.3 meters), while crocodiles can reach 19 feet (5.8 meters) or more. That said there is one species of crocodile – the African dwarf – that barely reaches 5 feet (1.5 meters). Also, the Indian mugger crocodile has a decidedly U-shaped snout, breaking the V-shaped rule.
3. Mary-Kate and Ashley:
I know you said based on appearance, but an observation I made is that Ashley talks more than Mary-Kate does.
They are fraternal twins, not identical.
Mary-Kate dyes her hair brown, while Ashley dyes her hair blonde.
Although they both seem to prefer black, white, grey and super high heels, the way they put their looks together is completely different.
Ashley generally dresses more sophisticated whereas Mary-Kate likes to dress fun and funky.
2. Crocodiles-you can see their teeth when their mouths are closed, alligators-you can’t.
3. I don’t think Ashley’s as thin as Mary-Kate…hard to say.
While alligators are often confused with crocodiles, they belong to two quite separate taxonomic families, and are as distinct from one another as humans are from gorillas.
As for appearance, one generally reliable rule is that alligators have U-shaped heads, while crocodiles are V-shaped – which can be remembered by noting that “A” in alligator comes before “C” in crocodile, and “U” comes before “V”.
Crocodiles have a longer narrower snout, with eyes further forward.
Also, if one looks at an alligator and then a crocodile, one will notice a difference in their mouths: only the upper teeth are visible when an alligator’s mouth is closed, while a crocodile’s mouth will reveal both upper and lower teeth, as their fourth tooth sticks out from the lower jaw, rather than fitting neatly into the upper jaw.
Crocodiles also tend to have green eyes, while alligators have brown ones.
Another distinction can be drawn between the jaws of the two animals. Crocodiles’ jaws are much more narrow and are used to tear and grip on prey. By contrast, alligators’ jaws are meant to crush bones, and can deliver a bite force of up to 3000psi (20MPa)
A crocodile is green, while alligators are yellow.
Mary Kate and Ashley are twins.
Books, magazines and later some newsy stuff on the ‘net are nice, too. (Gotta’ keep knowing what’s going on in the world.)
Some may tell you the croc and the gator are the easiest to tell apart…at least I think so…but I don’t care to watch them long. They mainly lie around. At least I sit around; big diff, huh? ;-}
