The NCAA has banned a lot of Indian mascots and symbols. Why are professional teams exempt?
But professional teams are still allowed. The Chief Wahoo symbol of the Cleveland Indians could not be more cartoonish, and Redskin is the N word for most Indians and yet the team representing the national capitol is called that. The Atlanta Braves still use Hollywood music and the tomahawk chop.
