Regarding admissions, what do schools mean when they say that most of their students are in the top 10th?
I would like to apply to UVA and i was looking at its website and it said “Among first-year students, 88% ranked in the top 10th of their secondary school classes. ”
Does that mean the top 10 percentile or the top 10 students in terms of rank? For example, in a class of say 200 students do they mean the top 20 students (10%) or the top 10 students (based strictly on rank)?
