Is it safe to eat off of hand painted porcelan dinnerware?

I know some painted dishes have traces of lead. These dishes were given to me and there is no warning on the box. They are Coventry Hibiscus hand painted dishes. Made in China

hard to tell unless you know what type of glaze they used. i would contact the manufacturer to be sure. there’s really know way to tell just by looking at it. although most non-decorative porcelain is food-safe. if it came in a box that says dinnerware on it then it’s most likely food safe. but call or email the manufacturer to be sure.

It depends. If they are properly glazed, then probably.. however, it’s hard to tell just by looking at them. If they aren’t glazed, definitely not.

Since they’re from China, I strongly suggest that you do not eat off of them. Really. Just don’t do it. Buy a nice set of cheap dinnerware and then you can toss it into the fire after dinner while you dance.

After they are painted, if they are baked, the paint may get fixed and may not leach out. But there is a small possibility of some chemicals including lead to leach out. If you are particular, get some wipes and swipes tested.
