If the 7-11 is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, why does it have locks on the door?

7-11 gets it’s name from the original store hours 7am-11pm.

For various reasons, the stores are required to have locks. This can be due to local laws and building codes, to labor laws allowing the limited staff time for breaks.

There are 7-11 units that close during night hours, such as one that was in Newbury Park, CA as well as near Elk Grove, CA.

Other than actually having closing hours, the only times that i have seen the front doors locked is when they were doing cleaning of the floors, or a police incident was being investigated.

BTW, this question is also often asked about Denny’s.restaurants and at one time they closed on a Thanksgiving Day. Some locations had to be retrofitted with locks.

When there is only one person on duty, they lock the doors when they go to the restroom.

Also in case of power failure, or natural disaster, they will close down.

i’ve encountered that question somewhere already and my answer will be the same:They put locks for security purposes. for example, the cashier sees from inside that a commotion is happening in front of their store, the perpetrator could easily get inside and hostage the man behind the counter.

Another reason is, when the power goes out, the lights also go out, and the cash registers don’t work, so they won’t be able to ring up any sales.

Because, sometimes when you gotta go, you gotta go. So the only guy working locks up the place to well, you know.

I always heard that it is in case they get robbed, or something similar, they can lock up and deal with it.

Extream renovation or you can’t afford to keep it open.
