If they are federal Stafford or Direct loans, you can request to defer payments while in school at least half-time. If they are private loans, your bank will tell you based on the terms of the loan. Call the company where you send payments and ask what documentation they need to show you are back in school so you can postpone payments. Ask what happens to the interest. Some loans the interest is paid by the government (Subsidized). Others it keeps accruing, and you should try to pay it so you don’t end up paying interest on interest.

I’m not sure I understand the question but payments won’t stop unless you stop sending them. If you are referring to a deferment, a way of putting the payments on hold while you continue your education, you would need to call the company you send payments to, tell them you are going back to school, and then ask for a deferment on the loan.

As long as you are active you can defer your student loans.
