Horror is subjective, and when speaking of cinema it’s best to look at it for what it is, rather than what it isn’t. I have noticed a trend of the new “horror” genre fillers being a lot more like throwbacks to the old chillers rather than horror. Slash-em-ups are blockbusters, but cinematic garbage. Hollywood just needs some new directors.

well, snakes on a plane wasn’t really horror. it was campy comedy under the guise of a thriller. but yes, horror movies suck right now. nowadays they’re all relying on the gross-out factor instead an actually scary story. As in, an old guy who drugs you and puts you in some horrible contraption that will scar and maim you: not threatening. a creepy old guy who seems a refined gentleman who will actually eat your liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti? scary. a little kid who was burned and split into an innocent baby and some scary demon thing that terrorizes fanatics (Silent Hill) not so scary. A little girl possessed by Satan that walks down stairs like a spider and can turn her head all the way around? scary. i don’t know what’s wrong with horror movies anymore. seriously, they need to take a clue from 50s B movies, make the monster a lobster or something, and call it a day. because no matter how much they spend, their movies may be grosser, but they’re not scarier than ‘Teenagers from Outer Space.’

****edit: ok, the ring was actually a little scary, but then they ruined it with that crap-*** sequel. and don’t get me started on The Grudge. Little Japanese boys with emo makeup screeching like cats aren’t scary. They need spankings!

It is very hard for me to believe how many incredibly stupid horror movies there are. I believe it all started with a movie back in the 1940’s called THEM which was about Giant Ants that tried to eat everybody, but somehow this little tiny Army unit managed to kill the ants. Then came spiders, scorpions, bees, snakes, lizards, etc., etc., etc. If I had to watch one of the thousands of horrible horror movies every day year round, I think I would simply go completely crazy. Wait, I am crazy, so maybe I do watch one every day!

Your right. All these scary movies are way too cliche now. They all end the same way and have just gotten to predictable, thus making them less scary because you know what’s gonna happen.I miss those old school scary movies. And why do scary movies all have to have sequels now. There could be a great scary movie, but they ruin it with the worst sequel.Scary movies are also getting more confusing.Writers are trying to hard to make a scary ending that they ruin the whole movie by losing you in the first 5 minutes.
