how come nobody knows this stuff?

Did you know that the individual considered the “architect of the personal computer” is a Black man? Dr. Mark Dean holds three of the original nine patents on the computer that all PCs are based upon. You may not have heard of Dr. Mark Dean. But almost everything in your life has been affected by his work.

On 6 July 1971, Dr. Sampson invented the “gamma-electric cell”, which pertains to Nuclear Reactor use. This invention produces stable high-voltage output and current to detect radiation in the ground. The gamma-electric cell made it possible to send and receive audio signals via radio waves without wires; therefore, Henry Sampson has also been credited as the inventor of a cell phone.

J. Ernest Wilkins, Jr., 1923- Ph.D. at 19 Leads to Nuclear and Space Research. His primary achievement has been the development of shields against gamma rays from the sun and nuclear sources.

many more. all totally IGNORED. shameful.

Well, I don’t know anyone else who made strides in those fields, either. I have absolutely no idea who holds the other six patents on the computer, couldn’t name a single nuclear physicist…Have no idea who designed any bridge at all…So it’s not like all whites’ inventions are common knowledge while the blacks’ accomplishments are being swept under the rug…I also recall a commercial I saw recently in which I learned several things that black people have invented (something about the x-ray machine, I think, plus an exit sign and maybe something to do with an ultrasound machine? can’t really remember)…however, I’ve never seen a commercial dedicated to educating people about white people’s accomplishments. There’s no need to specify what people should be learning; we should be learning, period.

This is very fascinating, thank you for sharing it with me. Yes, it is very true that African Americans have accomplished many different things; they are just as smart as white people, and we white/caucasians need to remember that. I think that schools across the nation should remember to honor these accomplishments, even if they were accomplished by African Americans, because I believe that the US got over racism long ago. Little did I know that I was completely wrong, and that the US still needs to get a grip and deal.

I see a post like this and know it was written just to stir up controversy.

I dont “see” a person’s colour, I see the person themselves, so it doesnt matter to me the colour someone was when thinking about an invention. I think ‘wow, so-and-so was brilliant’, not wow, so-and-so is black and brilliant.’ That to me sounds even more prejudice, like I should be surprised that “a black man could invent that”. No, sorry. I dont see the world in black and white like you do.

I’m sorry, although it seems to me that most people don’t have a clue as to who invented what no mater the race of the inventor.

However anyone who says “what do black people have to be proud of” is just ignorant and especially if they are saying that to you.

Such important contributions should not go unrecognized. Sadly they do because politics and status get in the way of celebrating mankind’s wonderful achievements. When will people be seen as people? Hopefully we have learned to think differently.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Well done to all those who do not receive acknowledgement!!

Obviously these accomplishments are not TOTALLY ignored: YOU know about them, and now, so do we. But you’re right, non-white accomplishments are de-emphasized in our culture. But at least African-Americans have the opportunity to accomplish, if not appreciation for it when they do.

People don’t look up the questions because…………maybe they think that this is a place to ask & answer so they should use this more often. Or maybe they just want to see what other people think and not just look it up themselves.

Interesting. Many accomplishments by non-whites have been ignored.
