Do college transcripts make a huge impact on if you get the job?

I am still enrolled in college I have about another year left, I am getting a bachelor’s degree in visual communications (graphic design, adveritising etc.)

I have had a very hard time with school and my grades have sucked up until now because I have all the time to study now so my grades will definately be A’s and B’s, not C’s and D’s. My question is, when I go to apply for jobs, they will know I have my bachelor’s degree in Visual Communications..will my individual grades make an impact on if I get the position? will I show proof of diploma or actual transcripts?

Also, will it make a difference that they see the last year I had mostly all A’s? I just am nervous about this..

Although I can’t speak on the Advertising Industry specifically, since I’m in a completely different one (Pharmaceutical)

What I can say is that my experience has been that MOST companies REALLY just want to VERIFY that you have completed your 4 year College Degree AND acquiring the transcripts in just PART of the overall Background Search that MOST companies conduct.

With larger companies, they use a 3rd party company to do the searches for them.

Usually, they don’t get hung up on GPA, although SOME companies make a fuss, if you put a different GPA on your Job Application than what your ACTUAL GPA was! I did this by ACCIDENT a few years back (I graduated several yrs ago and forgot the EXACT GPA). This cost me the job, as a result.

Getting all A’s in your last year will boost your overall GPA anyway…so I wouldn’t worry…They REALLY DON’T have the time or manpower or the interest, to scrutinize INDIVIDUAL grades in certain classes either.

Best of Luck in your quest for a job!!

Unless you are going for a teaching position and need certification, your transcript and diploma aren’t going to be a factor, especially in your major.

They’ll be more interested in samples of your written work and your design portfolio. Concentrate on those. Employers rarely ask for transcripts or diplomas. They will however, want personal references with contact info and will probably call or write to them. Best of luck to you! You can’t start looking too early.

most jobs dont ask for the full transcript. As long as you have the degree.. it really shouldnt matter.

The only time they may ask for your transcripts is if it is a high demanding job and they only want the best of the best. Most of the time they ask you what your GPA was.

As far as I know, the only two fields that will look into your transcripts are teaching/academia and some government agencies. Outside of those two areas, I’ve never even heard of someone checking education past the point of verifying that you graduated.
