Can anyone help me answer this question?

Joe has a total of $200 in his two pockets. He takes 1/4 of the money in his left pocket and puts it in his right pocket. He then takes $20 from his left pocket and puts it in his right pocket. If he now has an equal amount of money in each pocket, then how much money did he originally have in his left pocket?

I solved this problem algebraically like this:

x+y=200 x=money in left pocket, y=money in right.

.25x+20+y=100, then solve for y and you get this.

y= -.25x+80, then substitute value for y in other equation.

x – .25x+80=200. combine like terms and solve

.75x+80=200, subtract 80 from both sides.

.75x=120, divide by.75

x=160

He had $160 in his left pocket.

let x be the amount initially in left pocket

then x/4 is removed from it and then 20

so

x-x/4-20 equals half of amount ie 100

so x=320/4

x-1/4x-20=100

3/4x=120
