The assumption is that prereading strategies WILL activate prior knowledge (which no one is sure even exists in all the students) and WILL raise interest in the subject matter (if any interest existed in the first place).

the new knowledge(new text) is stored in the brain by how it is similar to known knowledge(prior experience with similar text format, characters, themes, locations, authors…) and retrieved by how it is different
