What type of Bachelor’s Degree should I be looking at?

To become a teacher? I have my Associates Degree, and am looking to be a teacher possibly in elementary school. I know that after my B.A. I will need to get my credentials, but I don’t know exactly what I would major in.

Thanks!!

You could major in Elementary Education.

Or you could major in any subject that interests you and then spend a year getting your Teacher’s Certification.

To teach at a high level (like high school) you would major in the subject you planned to teach, i.e. English, Spanish, Math.

Usually if you want to pursue an elementary teaching career, you will major in elementary education. You will be working towards a multiple subjects credential. If you want to teach something else in elementary school, there are other opportunities. These include P.E., Music, Art, Technology Specialist and Special Ed. You can specialize in these in college. These days special ed teachers in elementary school must also complete the elementary education major, along with their special ed classes.

I would think you would want your Bachelor’s in Elementary Education, and go for certification in El Ed. What’s your Associates in? Is it a related field like Early Childhood or Special Ed? If so, you could go for dual certification. If not, you could work toward dual certification in El Ed and one of those other related fields. It would mean a few more classes but would make you more marketable in the long run, so it would be worth it. You might want to plan on going on to complete your Master’s eventually, too. Contact a university with a good education department and ask for an appointment with an adviser to find out exactly what classes you will need. If you can, take a copy of your transcript with you so they can see what classes you’ve had that will apply to your new degree.

If you are wanting to teach elementary, you would get your bachelors in elementary education. Upon finishing the program, you would be prepared to take your state’s certification test. At that point, you’d be hirable. There are other routes to get your certification, like if you had a bachelor’s in another field…then there are things you could do to obtain certification, but if you know at this point you want to be an elementary teacher, then get your BA in elementary education. There is a bachelors for every level of education — secondary, middle school, and elementary. If you decide to go secondary or middle school, then you often have to pick a “minor” (core subject area – math, science, social studies, communication arts, etc.)

Good luck.

Talk with an advisor at your school! Most community colleges have articulation agreements (you are guaranteed a seat in the university if you meet the prerequisites and have earned your A.A.) with universities and can tell you what courses you will need. Check with your local university….ask for a catalog. The catalog will tell you what classes you need to take. You may also need to take some extra classes if you do not have the prerequisites for the College of Education at your local university. You may also be required to take the SAT or ACT exam (usually within the last 5 years before applying) and make a certain score for admittance to the College of Education.

If you are interested in teaching in an elementary school, you would major in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education. In most states you can take the classes you need for your credentials (and take the state exams before graduation) while you are completing your major classes. If you are interested in middle or high school, you would major in a subject area and minor in education (or major in education and minor in a subject area, depending on the university).

Again, to get specific information, contact the university you plan on attending, get their catalog, and talk with an advisor from that university’s College of Education since each school has slightly different requirements.

The bachelors area does not matter specifically. You should get it in what matters to you most. Some go for academic subjects. Many elementary teachers get their BA in elementary ed. Talk to a few teachers and see what they suggest!

good luck to you!

you’ve a BA in any area, yet something like English would be extra ideal than Physics. 🙂 in spite of the shown fact that, what’s maximum serious is journey. the place I stay, you may’t get employed without a minimum of two years. whether you have a perfect coaching! I stay close to quite a few significant cities and intensely few classified ads choose BAs. they choose journey and now, extra are inquiring for a perfect, ABA-approved coaching. The approval is fairly significant! i think of a BA will set you aside, in spite of the shown fact that that’s not a figuring out element. i became enrolled in an approved paralegal software, yet I left it. Why? i became cautioned to locate an get admission to-point pastime to get journey. curiously, the reality that I also have a BA made me overqualified and additionally, I lost out on a pair of jobs to those with journey (get admission to jobs). i became advised that without journey, no organization will hire. there have been 5 paras in my classification, all have been given their jobs by journey. None had a level, yet they have been getting it so as that they could flow directly to different jobs. there have been quite a few human beings with BAs and none human beings could desire to locate artwork. If I have been you, i might locate an get admission to-point pastime now. proceed going to college. Get your journey. Then, attempt to get a activity as a paralegal. in case you do, then come to a decision approximately college. I truthfully do not think of you will choose a BA for all jobs; in spite of the shown fact that, you relatively could be certain your college’s software is ABA-approved. without an approved college, you would be constrained in what jobs you will get. in case you come to a decision you like the sphere, get the BA in case you sense you like it. i does not decide for a BA in Paralegal on the grounds it relatively is so particular that in case you come to a decision to alter fields, it’s going to be extra complicated.

You major in what you are primarily interested in, for example social studies, math, sciences, etc.
