What are the teacher salaries in each state?

I have been a teacher for almost 8 years now and I still have yet to bring home a lousy 40 grand a year! What is up with that? I teach in NC by the way. Could anyone who teaches anywhere else possibly make less money than me???

My SPED mentor teacher has been teaching for six years and makes $36000 a year. She has a B.A. This is in Colorado. The salary may be low but of course teaching is not for the people looking to be rich.

People just across the boarder in SC. Actually it varies by county. The counties that are in need of teachers, are offering signing bonuses. I know that Lancaster and York Counties in South Carolina are growing at a phenominal rate and need teachers desparately. So is Charlotte/Meckenburg but I don’t know why anyone would want to work there. I used to work at a school in Lancaster County and a lot of the teachers there had moved from NC just because the stress level was lower in SC. Not so much because they didn’t demand the same level of teaching, but because the schools were either rural schools or small town schools and the students were better behaved. I’m not sure if they would pay you more, but the cost of living is a bit lower than in Charlotte, so what you do make would go further. Here’s a link to the teacher salary schedule for Lancaster County Schools:

They not only vary by state, but by county and in some cases by city. My daughter made more money than you her first year in NJ. NC is known for paying teachers low salaries.
