It depends GREATLY on where you live and what kind of job you are looking for. Where I live, Detroit, it is nearly impossible to get into a public school district without knowing someone who already works for that school district. Jobs are really tight. However, there are always some areas that are constantly hiring, Vegas and Florida come to mind…so if you don’t mind relocating, finding a job is not terribly difficult.
Also, there are charter schools, which is where I have worked since getting my teaching certificate. It is not a bad job…I don’t think I get paid as well as someone in a public school with my experience, but I also have good job security with all the public schools that are closing.

It depends on what you teach. For some positions, like English teacher, there are not much available for those jobs because a lot of people want to teach it. Things like math and science have more openings. If you teach elementary, there are a lot of jobs, but there is also a lot of competition.
