Teaching in Tennessee’s Public Schools?
I don’t have a teaching degree but I have a BS in geology and want to teach.
Do I first apply to a school and then they send some paperwork in so I get the appropriate alternative liscence?
The Tennessee education website isn’t very helpful in explaining the step by step process.

Contact your local school district. They will tell you what you need to do to get your alternative certification. You can get a teaching position while you are completing your certification requirements and will have a temporary certificate. Temps are usually good for two years by which time you are expected to have passed the state exams. After you pass the exams you will receive your full teacher certification (which usually has to be renewed every five years).
