In my school district, librarian and media specialist is the same thing. If you need experience and you have worked in a library, then I’m sure you know something about literature and possiblyl english. I would see if you could tech either of those subjects since it has something to do with your old title. If you are not certified, look into an Alternative Certification program. Depending on how the program is set up, they train you and you will teach in the classroom while working on your certification. Excellent way to gain experience and network in your school district.

You didn’t say if you were certified or not. You still need to be certified to be a media specialist in a public school. I’m not sure about media specialists but all other teachers must complete a student teaching internship before getting certified. As long as you are certified you can get hired. Perhaps you need to complete a certification program to gain experience.
