Teaching in Japan and the States?

Recently, I came to a decision (actually through some yahoo help) of what I really wanted to do and some soul-searching. I want to teach English in Japan (I have heard JET is a good program for this), but also have the option of teaching English or being an elementary school teacher in the United States as well.

I noticed on the JET program it says you don’t have to know Japanese to be accepted (which sounded crazy to me, although I’ve been doing some self-study on the language) but have a B.A. degree and been through a teaching program?

Would it be possible for me to double major in English and Education so as to become an English teacher in Japan, then, when I returned to the U.S., teach English or elementary school? I really know this is what I want to do, and that I deeply want to do both.

Is this the right choice of majors? [And I’d heard double majoring means you’ll be in college for ten years!?]
