Teaching Help!?

I am enlisted in Navy and am new to teaching. I am currently attending Hospital Corpsmans school to aid our fellow Marines in Combat and I have a medical background in the civillian world. For me…the classes are easy because of my outside experience. I have been given the position of Educational Petty Officer to help/tutor others learn the material. We have a class of 60. I am wondering if anyone can offer some advice on classroom games for adults….as a way to quiz and prepare for the lesson plans. I find they get bored easily. Any help is very much appreciated. 🙂

If I were in your class, I would be really angry if you wasted my time on games. If I were bored, it would be because you were not teaching me fast enough. Ask your class about the pace and if it is meeting their needs.

Are you tutoring the whole class at the same time? That’s quite a task. I would suggest you tutor them in groups. When I was in school, I found the task of studying much less boring when I was with people I enjoyed being around, and that in itself made it fun. Try to put them in groups with people that they get along with. You can also try having competitions with different groups, military classes in themselves tend to be competitive from my experience, and that will probably motivate them.

I adapt many games from here for my adult ESL students:

If you think creatively, you will be able to modify these games to work for any content area.

60 is a big group to teach! Putting them into small groups of 3 or 4 might be helpful sometimes. Think of word games you’ve played, like Scattergories, Outburst, Tabu. Sometimes you can give some basic guidelines and materials, and let them play on their own.

I would typically have a pass at instructing you methods to learn sheet song in the event you had been sufferer with me….I am no longer definite I might make a exceptional trainer, regardless that. I believe I was once taught the fundamentals at an excessively early age….and I have a tendency to suppose it’s some thing you on no account fail to remember. I suppose I might uncover it tough to “coach myself” such a lot matters….and this was once illustrated while my brother gave me a guitar a couple of years in the past, which I nonetheless have, and feature on no account bought round to rather finding out methods to play!

Teaching adults is a whole different thing from teaching kids. You need to approach it differently. Here are a few sites that may be helpful to you. Best of luck with it.
