should i be a teacher?

i would realy like to be a teacher, preferably high school, i am in high school right now, i love it alot, i am not the loudest, or most well-known person, but i do love just being there, the interaction we all have with each othe,r how many ppl there are (i go 2 a vry populated public school, about 3000 ppl), & ive always like jsut the atmosphere of school. i never used to be a good public speaker, until recently ive improved alot. i get a bit jittery, but ive realised i only worry in front of audiences older than me, or my age. i was in a play and stood in front of 1000 10 year olds, spoke to a class full of freshman and i didnt worry or have one fearful thought in my mind… so, i think when it comes to that ill be good, but mainly i want 2 teach becaus i would feel so amazing knowing i have the power to impact ppl, and yet it is a small scale job, i also feel i will have the ability to be creative (im a vry creative person) also im just rly caring, towards strangers even…

i really appreciate your point of view to be come a public servant, time to time you will discover the importance of being a teacher someday. Fortunately, you learn on how to develop self-esteem towards other people around you. In the first place you told us ” i want 2 teach becaus i would feel so amazing knowing i have the power to impact ppl, and yet it is a small scale job, i also feel i will have the ability to be creative (im a very creative person) also I’m just really caring, towards strangers even…” Don’t expect anything God knows that you give your strenght to care others.

I’ve never thought of becoming a teacher, ever. But something happened that really made me pursue this career.

I did “part-time” teaching in a primary school for a year and honestly, the workload is really a lot. That’s the way it is in my country. However, what made me want to be a teacher is actually the kids that I met while teaching. It is really rewarding to see the changes that these kids will do for you. From their end-of-year results to their behaviour. I enjoy giving kids their future.

And the best teachers are those who make lessons as enjoyable as playing “catch” or “hoops”.

ps: I didn’t enjoy public speaking or interacting with people much. But being a teacher has totally changed all that. =)

If you feel the passion burning, then I’d say, GO FOR IT!

I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I was a little kid. When I got into college, I switched majors a couple of times (Psychology, English, History). However, I made my way back to Education. I’m now entering my senior year as a Social Studies Education major (can’t wait to start student teaching!). Just couldn’t imagine myself doing anything but teaching for the next twenty or thirty years of my life. It’s a very rewarding job. I say GO FOR IT! If you really want to, that is. Take a few random classes (things you might be interested in) your first couple years of college and see what fits you best. GOOD LUCK!

I agree with Sophie B; teaching is a calling, and if you go into it with any other reasons other than to impart knowledge, then you can never become a good teacher. Same thing for doctors, another calling….

So, if you really have the voice inside telling you to teach, then go ahead!

You seem to know what you want to do already – as you’re passionate about the idea of being a teacher.

I’d just suggest you look into entry scores / requirements for studying Education at Uni where you live / state.

You could tutor students to see if its for you too.

No, teachers make lousy money, fist time teachers are put into lousy schools, you dont get to choose the school where you want to work and you dont get to choose the grade you want to teach, you are placed where they need you. Teachers often work a 10 hour day and dont forget prep times for assigments, Teaches make lousy money and are treated like crap
