Isn’t teaching a dog tricks like teaching kids religion? Neither knows what it means and are stuck with it for
the rest of their lives unless they wise up.

That sounds true, My dog olny knows “sit,” no matter what I try to teach her she doesn’t listen.I’venever tried to teach a kid religion, but I know it takes a lot to understand it. also dogs see you and hear you say the commands,but they may not understand you. It takes a lot to teach an old dog new tricks.

Maybe, but they also both have similar benefits.
Dogs who are trained, tricks or otherwise tend to be better behaved and have a better quality of life
and many would argue people who religion have more of a purpose in life and can often times deal with traumatic incidents better and may have a better quality of life also.
