I don’t know. It wasn’t that long ago that America did as well. In fact corporal punishment, though rarely used, is still legal in many states.

Here is an older article (2001) stating that 23 states still allow corporal punishment. Though I am not sure if any laws have changed since then, I would hope so.

Here is a bit of information from Wikipedia

I was a teacher in South Korea and yes, they brought out the ruler across the knuckles quite frequently. I didn’t because I come from a society that deems corporal punishment as negative and, in fact, it is. However, not all countries have the lack of trust as we do in America and in some places in Europe. Unfortunately, Americans, including myself, can get pretty aggressive so a line has been pretty much drawn in the states, Alabama is the only state I know where it is not illegal to hit a student but that was a couple of years ago, maybe the laws have changed since then. Hope this helps.

such relatively some mothers and dads have tied the palms of the teachers and the college structures via protecting their little ones even for brutish habit. you’re top, that brat would desire to have been tossed right into a juvenile equipment fairly than some days suspended. Did you spot all and sundry assisting the instructor? No, fairly they filmed it as though they have been staring at a action picture or enjoying a video activity. the class would desire to be disciplined besides. i does not the 1st step foot back right into a lecture room the place i did no longer have administration and a school equipment to back me up. that is terrible.

In some countries they do; in others they do not. It depends on the laws in that country.
