if you have an elem ed degree in NY but get a masters in administration, can you take charge of a high school?

if you get a degree in ny in elementary education, but get your masters in educational administration, can you still be hired as a principal of a secondary school and vice versa, or can you only get hired as a principal of an elementary school. I ask because I would ultimately like to be a high school principal, but I am currently near the final stages of getting a BA in elementary ed. and i fear that i might be restricted to the elementary level, even with the masters.

Also, is it difficult to find an administrative job? How much teaching experience does it require?

An elementary teacher may become a high school principal, just make sure your Masters is for high school
