I can’t land a teaching job. What am I doing wrong?

I would however suggest the following.
Do not just attend job fairs.
Have someone look at your resume and make suggestions.
Think about the questions that you may have been asked at your interviews. See if you can come with better answers.
Have someone (preferably) one of your former teachers put you through a mock interview.
Find out the problems and goals of the local school systems and schools. You will often be asked to solve them even if the school cannot solve these problems themselves.
Prepare a brief list of your strong points, often is an interview you will be asked if there anything else you wish to add. Either summarize your strong points or mention them for the first time. Do not read or look at your notes at the interview.
If you have friends who are teachers see if they can help you obtain a job.
Every school district and each school has what is known as a school report card. Become familiar with them.
Network as well with those who graduated with you. Have they been able to get jobs?
I am not familiar with the Dallas/Fort worth area. Is there an oversupply of EC-4 teachers?
School like to employ for various programmatic reasons teachers who are qualified to teach other subjects. Attempt to obtain dual certification and lacking ha mention your ability to teach these other subjects. This message has been written by a former principal who has hired many teachers and a professor of education.
I hope that this information is helpful.
Good luck and keep on trying.
DrlG’s advice is excellent. A few more job search tips–
1. Walk your resume directly into school principals, if possible. Generally principals have the most say over who is hired– and you’re moe likely to get called in for more interviews than if you just wait for HR.
2. DOn’t just look for the jobs advertised in the paper or on the Internet. Many of the best schools don’t advertise heavily because they already have qualified candidates on-file. Go to the phone book and call the HR office of every district you want to work at…. and ask them if there are any anticipated openings.
3. When you’re interviewing and they ask you how you WOULD do something, tell them how you have already done it. This will make you seem more experienced.
4. Have a good teaching portfolio with you. Be sure it is filled with student work samples and lesson plans. When they ask you a question about your favorite lesson or something that relates to items in your portfolio, you’ll have evidence to show off.
There’s a good eBook that might be helpful to you. It’s got job-hunting tips for teachers, resume and cover letter information, sample interview questions and answers, etc, etc. The eBook is at: http://www.iwantateachingjob.com . Maybe it can help you.
Hope your luck turns around!
Few districts will notice or care that you graduated top of your class (sorry, but there it is). Your subbing experiences are your best chance to audition, so don’t treat them as just a way to fill time while you’re waiting– treat every day as a sub as if it’s a job interview. Do your very best, and sell it. Meet the principal. Do such a good job that the teachers you sub for remember your name.
The fact is baby boomers are not retiring in the numbers that were expected (who can blame them…life is just too expensive) and many, many people are looking to switch careers and become teachers (who can blame them…it is a great job)
Unfortunately this means more and more people looking for less and less available teaching positions.
You need to make sure you do EVERYTHING you can to separate yourself from the crowd.

Be really enthusiastic at interviews; act as if it is your dream job. Hopefully, it will be. Schools want people who will really work because they love their jobs.
