How would you teach children about archaeology?

Books, websites you’ve used?

I have connected using “gold plates” and archeology. I have had a family meeting where we inscribed hieroglyphics onto a metal plates and gave each other a “coded” message on the plates. Then, we buried our “plates” out in the backyard for the winter. Come Spring, we did an “archaeological dig” and uncovered our plates. We then decoded each other’s message to each other.

It was a teaching opportunity about archeology and also ancient records..

I would start by checking out books about archaeology from the library, plus any books I have already gotten, then I would take them to the museums around, like the natural history museum, and show them all that is there about archaeology, then I would if possible take them on a dig to show them, or set up one in the backyard.
