How to make teaching about India’s diversity interesting?

This is a class of college students in India who are in their first year of the Bachelor’s degree. This is a compulsory course for streams of Science, Arts and Commerce. I am to teach Arts and Commerce classes.

Have you thought about what sort of arts and crafts movement has happened in India in say the last 10 years and how does it compare with the movement 100 years ago?

Find a point of reference as to what is going on in India today as opposed to what the country did while they were in under British rule. And how they lives would be different if India was still under the Brits.

For instance look at the jewelry the women wore in say 1947 and what are they wearing today. I hope this helps.

Pick a short essay (in English) and ask your students to find Indian people and have them read it (record it). People from different regions of India would have different accents (diversity). Imagine the same thing read by Punjabis, Bengalis (Simpsons), Gujaratis and say Tamils. Very funny but very interesting and memorable.

SHOW PICTURES. There’s a shock element…the men covered in the ashes of the dead, the monks, the huge crowds at the Ganges…that’ll get the interest & diversity across, I would hope.

well, this is America. Here, depending on ur class, promoting certain countries is almost impossible.
