How to answer this interview question?

I have an interview question for an elementary teaching position. I have had other interviews. When they start off and say, ” so tell us a little about yourself” How do i answer? Do I tell them about my education, family, hobbies, stuff like that? Or do I talk about my qualities like, being deternined, open minded, work well with others? I’m so confused on what they are looking for.

First remember to be relaxed and dont sound over confident….tell them a little about your education and tell them why you enjoying working with children and what your hoping to get from them -saying something along the lines of how you feel that you and “them” working together can benefit you both when they are asking this its like answering why areyou good for this mission and why should we pick you but keep it simple and to the point…Good Luck

They will be looking at consistency across answers, genuine and authentic answers, and passion. Always mention how you will be contributing to the educational field and why you think it’s so important. Big picture is much more desirable to the people who hire. Know some buzz words such as “cultural proficiency”, ” differentiation across teaching”, “multiple intelligence”, ” How “”No Child Left Behind”” can work! They want POSITIVE energy. Be knowledgeable about the area of education you’re applying for. Telling them what you think is important such as “working well with others and collaborating your efforts” will give them a window into your personal qualities and character. If you have any strengths such as computer literacy, music, art, or story telling make sure you mention them. Wear deodorant, stay focused, smile, and look at allllllllllll the people interviewing. Good luck!

You could ask them what they are looking for. It is okay to clarify questions during an interview. If they say, it doesn’t matter, you can talk about your qualities as well as hobbies etc. I would talk a little about your education, tell them something about yourself that is unique, and tell them about any hobbies that might be of benefit in the classroom. Then you can give a few quick adjectives to describe your qualities.

Good luck finding a job!

The panel wants to become familiar with you on a personal level as well as make you feel comfortable at the start of the interview…..pose the answer in a professional, to-the-point way so that you’re not telling them about how your Grandma always puts too much salt on the potatoes and how much it irritates you every holiday. Haha. Just teasing…but, seriously, telling the panel about your education, family and hobbies is the best way to go. I think you have the right idea.

It’s an extremely open-ended question. They want to know what they think is an important answer to YOU. Personally, I think it comes off better if you talk about a mix of things (some general, like qualities, beliefs, goals for the future, and some more specific and personally-oriented, if they relate to the job at all.). If you’re proud of your education, talk about it. Say something like “I went to _______ and I really think it’ll help me in this position since they focused on ____________.” But also be sure to mix things in that make you stand out and sound like an actual person. A list of things that make you qualify will not make them notice you. Try saying something like “My father was very strict, so, although, naturally I am very responsible because of this, I understand the shortcomings, and I really believe in a method of teaching that is fun, while still making children responsible for their own actions.”

Really, just talk about what feels right. Play up your strengths, and be forthcoming about your weaknesses, but don’t try to talk about them if it doesn’t come up naturally in the conversation.

It’s really just an “icebreaking” question, so, as long as you don’t give an answer that’s especially horrible, they’ll probably forget about a mediocre answer if you ace the rest of the interview.

Generally i tell them a bit about my background what kind of work i have done in the past and maybe throw in a couple of intrests you have and maybe a little bit about your education and qualifacations but remember to seem confident and positive and very smiley works every time and when they ask you a question they are more friendly if you treat it as a chat opposed to an interview where you are a nervous wreck trust me it works everytime by the time you leave that interview they think oh isnt he/she nice !!!!! then as if by magic you get the job !! good luck hope this helps !!

Keep it strictly professional – No personal facts unless they ask, but don’t be too professional, have a good vibe about you – Tell them about your education, past TEACHING jobs – any others they can look at your resumee for – Only talk about your qualities that relate to the job oppourtunity, like how you interact with children , Have you been around children in the past? talk about your teaching style, what you’d spend class time on, Ect… Hope this Helps!

Remember that this is not social conbersation, so it might be best to avoid topics like family, hobbies etc. unless they are in some way relevant to your work.

Your prospective employer wants to know why you are suitable for the job, so focus on your education and personal qualities.

In case of doubt, you could always ask the interviewer: e.g. “Do you want to hear about my employment history and qualifications, or is there anything else you would like to know?”

Intermingle them. Say something like ‘I am a determined person, that’s why I have taken my education this far’. Or ‘I learned to be openminded from my father and that’s why I do this’……….. etc.

Good Luck.
