How much does a teacher get pay in Texas?
I am retiring from the military and I am thinking about doing the troops to teachers program. I trying to research the salary in Texas and will appreciate anybody that can help. Thanks

it really depends on the district. large districts such as Fort Worth ISD, Dallas ISD, Arlington ISD, San Antonio, Houston, etc… pay fairly well….starting at around 42K, going up from there based on education and experience. other smaller districts could start out as low as 34K.

The Texas Education Agency’s minimum teacher salary schedule is available in the URL below. This is the minimum salary that each school district must pay for the given years of teaching experience and length of contract year. Some district salaries are higher when counties and local districts are able to provide additional money to this minimum. Degree levels (bachelors, bachelors plus 18 hours, masters, masters plus 30 hours, doctorate) and years of experience together determine actual salary a teacher gets paid.
In Texas, a first year teacher with 0 years experience with a bachelor’s degree will earn a minimum of $27, 320 for a standard 10 month contract.

I’ve been a teaching assistant in Texas for 23 years now. The pay for teachers is a lot better than it used to be. For beginning teacher’s I’d say probably high thirty thousand dollars. I’m sure it varies in the different school districts.

It’s just as important to consider cost of living in the area you’re looking at as it is to consider your actual pay scale. I taught in Houston for several years, and although my pay was roughly 5 thousand less per year than what I’m making now in Savannah GA, I lived MUCH more comfortably than I am now. Don’t know what part of Texas you’re looking at, but Houston is a pretty cheap place to live!
