IT doesn’t make me mad, I can’t say I agree with it, but it is someones opinion, and an opinion that is up for study and scrutiny.

When it comes down to it there are good and bad day cares, good and bad daycare workers, and good and bad parents as well. When there is a generalization of any sort it’s difficult to really assume that there is too much validity to the claim.

I do believe that parents need to be aware of their children, and their environment. From careful observation they can surmise how that environment is affecting their children, both positively and negatively. It never stops being the parents responsibility to watch over the well being of their children, no matter where they are or who is caring for them.

I can’t say it makes me mad. It’s somebody’s personal opinion, and I respect that. I disagree with it, because I went to daycare and it was a wonderful experience. My time there was great, I am still friends with other people that went there, and I consider some of the aides like family members. All daycares are not created equal, there are terrible ones and then there are great ones. Perhaps the creator of this site has only experience with bad ones. I believe that daycare is fine for children, as long as parents are responsible and research the daycare and choose carefully.

I just looked at it.. it doesn’t make me mad but I am very comfortable with my daycare we use.. I checked out daycares while I was pregnant and now that we use daycare i make suprise visits all the time. I know the people and I know that they care about my daughter. the owner and her mother who is a retired nurse knows everyones name. and makes sure they say good by to all the kids as they leave. you don’t even realize that they track everyone in and out and know who has picked up who. if they don’t know you, they ID you on the spot.. if you check them all out you will find the right one.. if you dought them find another..

I think that there are many loving and devoted people that do care about children. I think that there are many providers that provide care in their homes that care deeply about children. I think there are many day care centers run by churches and other non-profit agencies that do a great job of truly caring for children. I think that there are many loving people that work in institutional day care that care about kids (although I have worked in some myself, and there are MANY that do NOT!!)

However, in general, I do NOT think that the “day care industry” does truly care about the children. How can a “for-profit” large agency put children first when they are trying first and foremost to increase profit. Anything they do to improve things for the kids, is really to increase enrollment and justify greater fees and therefore increase the bottom line.

Even if there is a lot of love and care at the local level, I never saw it on a coroporate level. It was about doing things to increase enrollment and retention, not because it was “good for kids”

When it comes to day care too many parents are cheap. They don’t take time to shop around and if they do find a good quality day care they are too cheap to pay the cost.

You get what you pay for. And it is really to bad that the good places get a bad rap for the rotten places.
