I think the most personal way is to send small thankyou notes to your students at their homes. This way each and every student feels a personal sense of appreciation. IF there are just too many students to send thankyous too, then I would suggest thanking them verbally with a simple but sincere 5 minute spew.
I have found that the personal efforts I make with my students can really make a huge difference in day to day activites and moments. I am sure that if you are jsut yourself in the manner you thank them it will be effective. After all, you WERE doing something right or you wouldn’t have been chosen. Therefore, be yourself and keep it personal.

Kids love a party. They enjoy it when school is fun. I’d say make it a special occasion and bring in pizza or some special cupcakes or other special treat. The more fun you make it, the more they will love it and appreciate you too. They will feel the love and appreciation that you feel for them. Then just write THANK YOU on the chalk board. They’ll get it.

Words are often the least thing that demonstrates gratitude and appreciation, especially to young students. Show them your gratitude with a pizza lunch in the classroom. Pizzas are relatively inexpensive and they are liked by all kids. Do not bore them with a lengthy speech. Just remember K.I.S.S. when preparing your little discourse!
