You need to look on the MA website.

http://www.doe.mass.edu/Educators/e_license.html?section=k12

It also makes a difference if you have experience or not.

In some states, you can contact the state directly if you do NOT have a contract already. It looks like that MA is this way.

However, looking at http://www.doe.mass.edu/edprep/nasdtec.html you can see that MN is not a participating NASDTEC Interstate Agreement, which means it may be a few more hoops for you. If you went to an NCATE school, you should only have to take a test. http://www.ncate.org/public/listofaccredinst.asp

If you get hired, then your hiring school district will help you.

I transferred from MO to MD.

But there may be differences in requirements and some states may make you take a test/class in order to be fully certified.

Contact the DESE. There will actually be a person with the Title of “Director of Certification”. This person will know all the details. States typically accept other state certificates as long as the minimum # of credit hrs. is at least equal. Also, most states require their own “State History”.

You’ll (in most states) be given a 2 yr. temporary certificate. You have that time period to complete any lacking requirements

You don’t exactly ‘transfer’ the certificate, but you obtain an additional certificate. MOST of the time it’s fairly simple…it will be a test you take or a course…Some states are so similar that they will certify you with no additional ‘work’ being done, but that’s rare.

NASDTEC is a national organization whose mission is to facilitate the movement of educators across state lines. There have been agreements reached by participating states. For details, however, you should contact the state board of education in the state you are transferring to to see what they require.

Best of luck to you.
