The easiest thing would be a case study. Have the students read a passage and then ask questions about details in the passage, the main idea, which is fact and which is opinion . . .

A second question series may be about sequencing and cause and effect. Create a set of statements that the students should put into order – that shows cause and effect.

Another story can generate questions about inferences and predicting outcomes . . .

Basically have students produce these skills using stories as a way to get them using these skills.
