if your teaching people about it, a psychology textbook would be best. if your trying to encourage personality development, thats much harder, because the person in question has to want it.
however it isnt impossible. i have seen different techniques used in the recovery house where my brother works. its called Wall Time, and its very simple. the person has their toes, knees, and nose, about an inch from the wall, and they just stare at the wall (using a hooded sweatshirt works well because it tunes everyone else out).
what this does is helps the young men in question, be comfortable within their own head, without interaction or involvement from anyone else.
