Know that most teachers want you on their “good side” as much as you want to be there. Be polite and respectful, answer questions, ask questions that show you are listening and interested. Smile. Thank them for any help they give you. Do good quality work. Stay on top of your assignments – record instructions, due dates, etc. Be neat. Ask the teacher what you can do to improve a low-graded assignment. Be creative. Find a way to connect their subject to something that interests you and use that in homework or projects. Offer to help in the classroom – passing out papers, erasing the board, picking up trash. Just being a friendly, kind person will go a long way. Show some interest in your teacher as a person, where appropriate. Maybe they mention they have a hobby you share – give a big smile and say “Me too!” If you’re obeying school rules and just a nice person, you should be okay.

I am not sure of your age so i will answer this to the best of my ability in plain words. I have taught children in the past and I also have been a student. My answer to your question is this.

1. Answer questions often with correct answers.

2. Agree with the teacher even if you don’t agree with the teacher.

3. Turn in homework on time. Make it neat and so you can read it.

4. Be friendly to the teacher but not to friendly. Smile and basically keep your distance but not to far.

5. Don’t get involved with class goofs that like to cause problems or harass the teacher

6. Look clean and neat, make your appearance presentable.

7. NEVER miss class.

8. Take a few minutes to tell the teacher you enjoyed the class or the lecture, but don’t do it everyday.

9. If she or he asks for a volunteer , then volunteer yourself.

10. Do not kiss the teachers butt to much, others will hate you.

I believe those answers would be best if you tried them. I wish you luck and if there is anything else I may be able to help you with..I am Majestic.

Lots of good suggestions already posted. Here are a couple more:

Sometimes when a student is talking he/she is trying to help their neighbor, but the teacher yells at you for talking when he/she is trying to teach. If this is the case, after class, go to the teacher, apoligize for talking during the instruction, explain that the other student was needing help (was on the wrong page, couldn’t see the correct spelling of something the teacher wrote on the board/overhead, whatever). Most teachers will recognize that you are an asset in the class (most classes are overcrowded with students of differing ability level in the same class). If the teacher recognize that you are sincere and truly helping rather than just pretending to help another student but are really socializing, you will have a very successful year. My daughter took this advice after an incident in the first couple days of 7th grade Science and she had a great year with all her teachers (remember, teachers talk to eachother, too!)

Nowadays, teachers must the state-approved curriculum (in the old days, if the science teacher loved dinosaurs, he/she would spend the entire year on that, while the other science teacher was “following the textbook”). If students are pulling the class off task that just means it will take longer for the teacher to cover the material. If the class is cooperative, the teacher can cover the material with time left over in the school year to do more “fun stuff.” Oh yes, cooperative means that the students learn what the teacher is teaching. I know of a teacher who taught underachievers earth science. Because the students came ready to learn (plus, he was obviously a great teacher), he covered the required material in one semester, and the students got to do the “fun stuff”. One year, after the students learned and mastered the curriculum, they spent more time learning about volcanos in depth. The “fun stuff” included a trip to Hawaii to visit an actual vulcano and do experiments with a vulcanologist. Yes, the teacher was able to get various businesses to pay the students’ portion of the trip. See what can happen in a class when students are motivated (and ready) to learn? BTW, all the students passed the state test in that subject with a “‘pass advanced.”

The BASIC teacher started out, continues for, or ends up with ONE fundamental need or HOPE.

They want to GET to a student! They have a secret ego trip constantly brewing and what would REALLY get to them would be the most subtle of maneovers, but VERY effective.

You see, they get very good at catching eye contact from their class. They (like Santa) know who’s interested and who isn’t and you will hardly dedect their almost sixth sense abillity to KNOW!

Knowing this, you concentrate on your teacher. When ever possible, when teacher is yapping on, make your face the same way you would when your in the middle of the GREATEST movie of all time! If there are subtle jokes made by this teacher, don’t yell out your too abvious laughter. Instead, look down at your own desk and as if your trying to muffle the laugh, smile (knowingly) to yourself and slightly shake your head left and right. Make sure there is a smile and not a smirk on your face (or it will be taken as sarcasm).

Occasionally, when teach gets up or opens a drawer, shoot an interested glance their way.

Basically, its like dating. If your truly “taken” by someone and interested. Do the same with teacher and you will go home with them, in their mind as a COOL and special student for the mere reason, you got to their ego.

We’re all in this huge popularity contest of life, as you well know. Teachers are damaged humans just like the rest of us and these elementary steps go a long way to easing into their hearts. This technique alone added grade levels to my own grades at times I NEVER deserved them!

Now, go get your flamboyant driven degrees!

Show that you can think for yourself and get along with others. Don’t be a class clown or teacher’s pet. Be yourself and be considerate of the people around you. No matter how you do in the subject, any teacher will be willing, in fact eager, to work with someone who is honest and responsible.

I’m a teacher. I love students who STAY WITH ME. What I mean by that is that they make eye contact, respond (with a smile, frown, comment, question, nod….whatever is appropriate) to what I’m saying, and allow themselves to enjoy what I’m doing. If you’re doing these things, you won’t be misbehaving and you’ll be grasping the material and the class will go by faster for you. Do your classwork and homework to the best of your ability. Say “hello” when you walk in” and “see you later” when you’re leaving the room. Periodically on your way out of class, say “thank you” or “I liked when you told us about…” or pinpoint something that inspired or interested you.

NEVER be late, ALWAYS stay focused, and try not to conversate that much with friends. School starts the 27th for me too. I’m so excited–but you have to remember the reason you’re at school in the first place!!

Turn your homework in on time.

Don’t goof off in class.

Don’t try to answer EVERY question.

Don’t try to be the teacher’s pet.

Always ask about extra credit.

Don’t argue about grades.

Ask her to explain if you still don’t know something.

Give her an occasional compliment but only if you mean it.

(teachers are people too)

Ask her advice on something that she would know.

Help her with something if you can.

Sit in the front. Do your work. Bring your supplies. Smile and be friendly. Don’t shout across the room. Treat others with respect. Don’t be absent. Don’t complain. Do the reading and participate. DON’T BE TARDY.

Dont’t play pranks, get to school on time, do your homework, and always listen to the teacher. Also, don’t forget, or leave anything at home!
