Hillsborough County Florida paying for college for future teachers?

This is only for people who really know what they are talking about, please no BS answers here…

A while ago I heard that the county is willing to pay for the education of education majors in exchange for the teachers-to-be agreeing to teach in lower rated schools…. does anyone know if this is true and if so, where I can find info on that? I’ve done a million and two searches and can’t seem to find anything. Links would be nice, if you can give them! Thanks so much!

This is as close as I can get, at least there is a phone number and contact info here.

There did in fact used to be a National Defense Loan that paid off a school loan if you taught five years in certain disadvantaged areas, so this is a definite possibility. Invest in the call and find out from the source.

Well, I believe it is still on the table. CTA (the union) and the county are fighting it out. I worked in a county for 4 months before that years salary was decided. You then get backed pay. It seems silly to me. We haven’t even gotten our step increase yet. I hope we at least get that.

There’s Teach for America. I don’t think they pay for all your school but they help out with the agreement that you will teach for 3 – 5 years at a low income school. Best of luck!
