The entire concept of merit pay is ridiculous! Even the most effective teachers are not going to be successful with all the students. I teach low performing students. They come to me reading 4-7 years behind grade level. Does that mean I should be paid less? The entire concept just sickens me! We are working with human beings that come from a wide range of backgrounds with various issues. They are not pieces in a factory that we can assemble and move on down the line!

They had this huge incentive pay program in my school district this pass spring… and it was a mess…. the local newspaper printed the names and the amount of money each teacher received and all hell broke loose..
