From elementary schl teacher to nursing?

I am reaching that point in life where I am asking myself if I want to continue teaching for the next 25 years (I started teaching at 21 so I have a long ways to go until retirement!), or should I pursue something else? There are different things that attract me: traveling (but I have little children, can’t do this now), nursing in pediatrics or maternity, interior design. All three very very different. How hard/easy would it be to go into nursing with my degrees? I have a BA and a M.Ed. How long would I need to study? What can I expect from this career financially? I think I will stay in teaching for the next 5 years until both my daughters are out of elementary school, but I do need to start planning now what I would like to do after that.

I switched my major from Elementary Education to Nursing. You can actually transfer quite a few of your credits if they aren’t too old and it depends on what nursing college you decide to attend.

I don’t know what state you live in but the Universities often don’t accept other credits from other schools. Many of my colleagues were frustrated for having to shell out more money for courses that were really no different than the ones they already had.

Check with your local State Bd. of Nursing for recommendations. Don’t take anybody’s word for anything.

I found I was able to transfer quite a bit plus some of my Army training was accepted in leiu of an elective or two.

It’s worth checking out but don’t wait too long….

If you live in MN, be prepared to take Chemistry along with the other Anatomy and Physiology sciences.
