The term you used “physical torture” caught my attention. I would think most anything could be considered “physical torture”. If it is something a student must do.

I am not sure I would have handled the situation the same way though. Being sent home or having to wear something like a trash bag for the rest of the day is very common. Kneeling down seems very inappropriate.

If it really is a problem, speak to your counselor or your principal. Do not blame the age of the teacher. Just stay focused on the action and how demeaning it was.
