If you are asking about text books, try skimming the section first noticing the main heading and topics. Think in outline form to help get the big picture. Even number the sections. Yes, underline important info. Main ideas are usually the first sentence of a paragraph (or topic sentence) I also use ( ) or circles for dates or facts/figures and * for something I want to find again. Use photos for context clues. Summarize the section or at least review it in your mind. Try to explain what you have read to yourself as if you could teach someone else the info. This gives you the main idea and details. Then think about how you can apply what you read, make a connection to your own life or get the deeper meaning. If you don’t like to read because the words are difficult, then keep a dictionary close at hand ( I know, you don’t like to use a dictionary that much either lol) Reading will become easier and more interesting. Find something easy and interesting to read for enjoyment too.

if you daydream while reading, try going someplace alone and reading out loud…this will help you stay focused on what you are reading.
