Cheating their way through school with Yahoo! Answers help?

Is there anything schools can do to prevent students from using this forum to cheat on their homework? I have even seen questions from students who are asking questions from quizes online! This is especially true in the Math, Physics, and other science catagories. Is there some way we can get Yahoo! Answers to address this?

Nope..but if the teacher knows the student has had trouble they can always have a review to see if they actually know what they did….it would be funny to see the student who writes down the answer in detail and then is asked to do it again and can’t..especially the same problem.

It would be better if those trying to help use different examples rather than show the work on the problem they working on.

Um I use Yahoo Answers all the time for my college work. If I have trouble with a problem I ask on here in hopes someone can help. It’s not called cheating it’s called getting help. Cheating would be if someone used their laptop and yahoo answers While taking a test. And the answer is No employers don’t care how you got a degree they just care that you have one.

If you consider the total number of students in the world, and the enormous amount of homework set globally on a daily basis, the proportion of those students using this forum is negligible. I believe that it is very useful to the majority of users, who are able to access the experience and knowledge of some very gifted and talented contributors. Yes, the system is abused, but the abusers are the losers: as has already been mentioned, cheats will be found out pretty quickly by their teachers. It`s obvious who the serial abusers are, and for the most part, their questions are ignored, until they get the message and emigrate to pastures new. I Hope that this answers your question adequately.

I (for the most part) don’t see it as cheating on homework. I see it as a student realizing they need help and looking for it. Think about it: they could call a friend and be like, ‘hey, can I copy your homework?’ Instead, they turn to a community of people to guide them. Granted, some do use this for devious purposes, and some people give them the answers rather than give them assistance, pointing them in the right direction, hinting. But for most students, this is a valuable resource. As a current (college) student and future educator, I use this quite often, and in fact was about to ask a question for some help with a lesson plan I have to create for homework.

t is not so much that the schools can do but more of what we can do.

We should not give students the answers to specific questions that they have. We should attempt to help them find the answers by giving them sources to work with and also when they show that they have worked on a particular question or concept we should help them get over a hurdle that they cannot do by themselves.

That is what I do as a former teacher but I must admit that some tomes I may slip a bit.

Some answerer’s are so anxious to get the ten points that they will overlook what is they know is good for the student.

I don’t know if you’d call it cheating using Yahoo! Answers. There are reports that are available on-line that students can purchase…

Not everyone who answers here are exactly geniuses. I don’t claim to be.

I think it’s okay to assist them with the process to find the answer. There are those who flat out give out the answer. With no explanation how they arrived at the answer. They’re in it for the 2 pts.

I wouldn’t stake my future and education on the answers given to me on this forum. Have you seen some of the idiotic answers here?!

I guess they’re too lazy to research their own work on reputable websites. Back in the day, we had to get out of the house and go to the library…times are a’changin’…

If the students do not understand the concept they are asking about on YA, it should come clear when they take a quiz and/or test in school………
